Unfortunately you are right. The justice in the States is corrupt beyond imagination. He will feed the system (pay off the judge and the prosecutor by plea bargain), put even more money in the system (lawyers) - and the same time get away with not much more than probation at worst (for him). With "luck" not even criminal record.

Welcome to American judicial system: the corrupt justice will get money, the guy will get away with nothing - and continue where he stopped.
