when a nation is incorrectly named, as in FYROM's case , the ramifications are catastrophic not only for its population but also for its neighbors. Currently 137 Countries (75% of the world) including US, Canada, UK, Russia China recognise Macedonia as the ‘Republic of Macedonia’

The remaining 30 odd countries, which are predominantly developing nations (e.g. Sudan, Botswana, and Bolivia) have no diplomatic relations with either Macedonia or Greece, so do not care about the name issue.

So why would the Republic of Macedonia change its ‘identity’ to appease only 9% of counties represented in the UN?

If Greece has a problem with sharing the word Macedonia, then Greece can change it's Greek region of Macedonia back to the name they used before 1987 i.e. ‘Norther Greece’ or change it to ‘Macedon’ to distinguish it from the ‘Republic of Macedonia’.

It was until 1913 that Greece acquired our egejska makedonija, and began a process of colonization and expelled the indigenous Macedonians. One million Christian pontiacs from asia minor were settled in the area following the population exchange with Turkey. Now all of a sudden Greks are claiming an unbroken connection with the Ancient Macedonians?? You don't even have an unbroken connection with the Ancient Greeks!! Greeks have genetically more in common with African and Arabs than to Europeans, stop being so self-righteous and thinking you are so divine. Look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself are you really European?

It is interesting how slavs insist on wanting to be known as Macedonians! The whole world knows that the only indigenous people of those lands are Albanians. It is easy to distinguish slavs from Albanians, or other Europeans. Real slavs have features of polish, slovakian and russians. Beautiful people of balkans known as illyrians can be found almost everywhere in the region, such as slovenia, Croatia, bosnia, Albania (who are the purest) since they have preserved many values, culture and language) and Greece, including Italy and the rest of Europe. Religion has devided majority of Illyrians, and big powers have managed to devide and control them. Remember this: a slav can be easily distinguishable as most of them are mixed with mongolians and majority of them are indeed unattractive. Countries such as Macedonia, montenegro, kosovo, serbia, should not exist.

The Macedonian name question will never to resolved satisfactorily, as neither side wants it resolved. It serves as a great distractor and source of threat from an outside when politicians on both sides of the border need to cover up their failures or misdeeds. That's just to help Greece save face as a result of Greece creating this idiotic controversy. Once Macedonia joins NATO and the EU, it can change the name to whatever it wants and there would not much that Greece can do about it.
