What amkes a f16 or f18 so siperior to a mig29? Maneuverability? No that cant be it because a mig29 can out maneuver both od those planes. Could it be armament? No not really the mig29 carries aa11, which is very, very good. Could it be age? Not really they were all designed in the same era, and all have options dor upgrading airframes, avionics and radars to very modern standards. The f16 f18 amd mig29 are all excellent warplanes. Each of them has their own short comings. To say a mig29 is not good or in the same league as the other two means you really dont know what youre talking about.

Whaaaat, more Migs?!?! Yeah, yeah, they're a bit outdated; however, they're not falling out of the sky recently like the F-16's (in case Lenard wants to bring up the Israeli deal with Croatia). Unfortunately, a USAF acrobatic team Thunderbird F-16 crashed this week practicing maneuvers in Nevada, and it was fatal - RIP, and condolences to his family.

For these Mug-29, to fall out of the sky, they first need to learn to fly.

Thanks for reveali g your co.plete lack of knowledgs when it comes to this subject. Im nof sure what croatia will do to their f16s but i guarantee they we be at least gen4+. The 6 migs we just got are mig 29m vetsions and will ve upgraded to use the newest air to air and air to ground weapons. The newest zhuk radars will be installed. This will put them at gen4++. Do you think they design thess airplanes and then do not design upgrades? The usa is always upgrading f15 f16 and f18. You should probably not even be saying the ignorrant things you do.

So, what's your point? That they are so outdated that they can't become airborne and that's why they are not falling out of the sky? :)

I wonder how an air battle between Serbia and Croatia would look like many years from now. We would need to implement new rules for battle.
1) You can yell 'Timeout' when you're age-old jet starts to sputter in mid-air.
2) Battles will be restricted to daytime since we can't really tell the difference between each other with this outdated technology.
3) Forget 1 & 2. We will battle in the airport parking lots! Who's jets are the shiniest and have the best stereo systems and hydraulics!

With 2018 according to the old plans made by the ministry of defense all the Mig21, G4 and J22 where supposed to be retierd.

Now if this MiG-29 are in good condition that would be a great chance to prolong the overall life span of the airforce.
But non the less Serbian airforce is flying outdated machines, and a few Migs that are being purchased for as much of a political as for real reasons aren't going to make that much of a difference.

The current idea is to modernize the domesticly made aircraft but the experts are not being to optimistic with that plan.

Let's just hope this ends well for the military and doesn't become another political "hot potato" that one government will throw on to the next one and then shift blame as it's traditional in this parts of the world.

Belarus is still very good in the military technical sector (repairs, upgrades etc.). What is most important is that airframes are in reasonable condition for the price and it has good reliable systems. A poor example is the Ukraine which has exported its shite at cheap prices and buyers have had non-stop problems, such as claiming repairs were made with new parts etc. etc.
