"against a stable, moderate government"
(Andy UK, 31 March 2017 11:18)

LOL, Stable possibly, moderate no.

Under Hafez, Syria invaded Lebabon and during the 100day war he killed 100,000 (mostly Christians) and created another 300.000 refugees.
Under Bashar the government used machine guns on on unarmed and peaceful protestors and Syria had training camps and safehouses for terrorists including ISIS. The could travel to Iraq to set off car bombs, then return for R&R in Syria.
Since the war started? Mass executions and torture of prisoners, attacking civilian areas and enemies with sarin and chlorine, just last week all evidence points to the use of Chlorine gas on civilians by Assad.

Thank goodness that 27 years of failed American presidencies and poor foreign policy choices have come to an end (Bush 1, Clinton 1-2, Bush 1-2, Obama 1-2). Great again.

So the USA has changed its mind. Shame it didn't think about it more when they decided to get involved against a stable, moderate government and back a load of stone age fundamentalists, resulting in hundreds of thousands dead, refugees swamping Europe and parts of the middle east being ruled by brutal Jihadi nutcases.
