Please.......just because some invests in your pathetic country doesn´t mean you will become super rich. Serbia is badly developed country, and one of the poorest if you compare to the rest of Europe. Even Eastern european states like Romania and Bulgaria who are dirt poor are a million times better than serbia. Serbia have the same living standards as Pakistan. I have no idea if this story is based on fact or is merely fake news. Either way, it is undoubtedly true that the vast majority of Serbs have no idea what the EU will bring them. Will it make them as rich as the Germans or as poor as the Greeks? I have my opinion on this question, but all Serbs get from their leaders is the mantra that there is no alternative to EU membership. Serbs need a proper debate on the EU. They need to know what's in it for them.

I ex westerner ,now have been living for more than 3 years in Serbia ,and speak to a lot to the people and laugh at this story.
Everyone wants EU money and investments ,but not to join for a long time . Serbs have troubles with foreigners telling them what to do in their country ))

People I am an American who visits Serbia 8 times a year. This is not true every Serbian I have talked to wants nothing with NATO or the EU they just want to be left alone to live free. They are being forced to surrender all their land by PM Vucic do not believe anything else.

Whether this is fake news or not is irrelevant in my view.I travel widely and live in the diaspora as part of that first generation of Serbs born outside the former YU.My parents were evicted by that tyrant Tito.Having been to the USA,Canada,France,UK,Switzerland,Austria and many other countries where large Serb diaspora communities live and work it seems to me that Serbians generally are well-educated, resourceful, entrepreneurial,honest in the main and hard-working. So why do they need the EU? They who have lived in the former YU and now in their individual statelets are more than capable of making just laws,a favourable market for businesses to thrive in and still maintain their identity. Yes to the people ,I talk to in Jagodina , Belgrade ,Nis ,Paracin , Krusevac , Kragujevac and Krajevo.
I mean at of more than 10,000 people ,I asked in the last 2 years,only a few are happy to join EU,put everyone likes the scrapes (money) EU gives Serbia.

Actually you'd be surprised at the number of Serbs who were educated in Serbia and THEN go abroad. The Serbs educated in Serbia, per capita, tend to accomplish more than those educated in the west.
The problem is the corrupt and traitorous government Serbia has (a large part the fault of the west which has always wanted to keep Serbia down and week), as well as the historical lack of access to western markets, so its products didn't develop.
I am including communism in this as it was the British and the U.S. which installed Tito into Yugoslavia. They gave a huge amount of weapons and supplies to Tito and the Partisans, plus they had advisers working for them and with them.
Serbia's economy is still saddled by what happened under decades of communist - including many Serbian industries being dismantled and moved to Slovenia, Croatia, BiH, etc. during Tito's time.
Plus, after Tito's death, there were all sorts of troubles, including many pushed by the west (especially Albanian lobbyist Bob Dole, who was a very powerful Senator). Bob Dole pushed through resolutions designed to cause problems in Yugoslavia and set it up for the break up.

There would be no benefit of joining the EU. The people who think that everything would somehow magically turn fantastic immediately upon joining the EU are naive at best.

So why do they(Serbia) need the EU? They who have lived in the former YU and now in their individual statelets are more than capable of making just laws,a favourable market for businesses to thrive in and still maintain their identity. You seem to be missing something very important.

The same Serb could open us a business in the US, UK, Canada and Serbia and the success of the business will be very different between the ones in the West and the one in Serbia because of the laws, regulation, corruption and taxes in each country.
Much of Eastern Europe has to deal with the scars and mentality left over from the communist era. Throw in nationalism and the talk of wars and you can see why Serbia has along way to go before someone can be equally successful there as in the west.

Polls can be manipulated so easily. Survey they right demographic and you will have the result you want or just plain lie. Who verifies the polls?
This is designed to push EU membership through without having a riot because they hope citizens are going to be fooled by it.

Both Romania and Bulgaria have forsaken hundreds of millions of euros in structural funds and the like because those in power can be bothered to hire competent persons to a) put a plan together; b) give a concrete & verifiable timeline; c) guarantee that such plans would be complete. It's simply amazing. Governments of both countries have consistently done a massive disservice to their own citizens because they cannot simply pocket the EU money.

If I remember correctly, the rule is that if it unspent or costed through an agreed plan, the money stays in Brussels. In a little less than three years, this money is gone, save for Brussels various subsidies for poor regions of Europe.

Both Romania and Bulgaria have forsaken hundreds of millions of euros in structural funds and the like because those in power can be bothered to hire competent persons to a) put a plan together; b) give a concrete & verifiable timeline; c) guarantee that such plans would be complete. It's simply amazing. Governments of both countries have consistently done a massive disservice to their own citizens because they cannot simply pocket the EU money.

If I remember correctly, the rule is that if it unspent or costed through an agreed plan, the money stays in Brussels. In a little less than three years, this money is gone, save for Brussels various subsidies for poor regions of Europe.

Check it out. Some of the questions are quite fruity, as are the results! I'm not convinced by such a small sample size. The only thing it tells me It's that there are pissed off Serbs out there. Hardly news.
