Well, not sure where the brilliance or the strategy is in running a petrol station, having a GDP per capita lower than most of the west

(icj1, 1 January 2017 08:11)

---

Recently, icj1 showcased his/her stupidity by failing to comprehend the simple meaning and use of the term "GDP".

If icj1, the CB of B92, understood the meaning of GDP, then perhaps we could explain that a significant part of US GDP is based on dubious transactions, such as the buying and selling of derivatives, CDO, tranches and other intangible, unsecured (and worthless) paper. In contrast, most of Russia's GDP is actually based on tangible products such as oil, gas, minerals, fertilizers, and manufactured high tech material such as rocket engines (which the US is still buying).

I leave it to you, B92 members, to decide who is delusional: the owner of gas/oil/ petrol stations or the con-artist/swindler of fraudulent worthless paper. Hint: the south stream, north stream and any other stream that US has tried to block does not pump worthless paper. Moreover, the US rape of Iraq, Libya, Syria was for a product other than worthless CDOs, tranches and derivatives.

Well dear, Russia has cornered itself into becoming nothing more than a petrol station. So not sure who is this "everyone" that is responsible for that, other than Russia itself!
(icj1, 1 January 2017 08:11)

----

In contrast to having "cornered" a tangible asset like oil or a corner petrol station, icj1 should realize that the US has fallen into a bottomless pit with nothing more than a fake economy based on CDO's, default swaps, tranches and derivatives.

Few people in any country know more than a few headlines they might read each day. For the most part, lack of concern about the ill effects of foreign policy is the result of lack of awareness.

Lack of awareness is common. It isn't just an American phenomenon. So I don't see any sense in grouping people together according to ethnicity or citizenship, and then picking fights with those from other groups.

To put my point a different way, the differences between groups are much less than within these groups. That is where the discussion should happen.

This point applies as much to Albanians who come on this site to bash all Serbs en masse.

(JS, 2 January 2017 10:54)

The figures I have quoted are correct, yes they are shocking and most have never seen the real information on US debt, but they are correct. I was getting tired of reading about how badly the Russian economy was performing so I thought it was time to level the playing field a little.
So I have to have genuine concern about American people. Perhaps you could tell me did they have genuine concern when their government imposed sanctions on Iraq which killed 500,000 children? (the UN only counted children up to the age of 5 not beyond that died so the 500,000 figure is much higher). Did the American people have concerns when the US dropped depleted uranium over Iraq where today that country has one of the highest cancer rates in the world? **I forgot the depleted uranium that was dropped over Kosovo has no effect on Albanians otherwise I’ll get all these requests for proof.
Iraq and Libya had first class facilities for their people. During Hussein’s rule and prior to sanctions Saudi Arabia used to send their citizens to Bagdad for medical treatment now both counties basket cases.
Yep, you got me it’s all about moral superiority.

JS

pre 7 godina

@sj

If your comment reflected a genuine concern for the American people, it would be better received by sensible people. But since it smells so much like a heartless attack, it probably won't get the attention that it deserves.

US debt is an enormous issue that deserves serious attention. But as proof of the moral ineptitude of 350 million people it isn't as convincing. And it falls extremely short of what I suspect your ultimate goal is...To prove your moral superiority.

sj

pre 7 godina

For those who think the US is doing fine here are some of the current statistics.
Total US debt, includes government, private and business, is $67 trillion. Government owes $23 trillion, $20 trillion (already started on the $21st trillion as of 1 January) is Federal and $3 trillion state and local.
The US has an economy of about $17 trillion which means the overall debt is 400% of GDP. Note, the size of this economy is not due to increased productivity, as it’s inflated for several reasons, and one being all that printing of money – quantitative easing. The actual percentage of Government debt to GDP now is 121% and this is being conservative where some claim it’s as high as 135%, depending what other debt they take into account.
102 million live on or below the poverty line while 95 million are no longer in the labour force. About 47% of all working adults in the US hold down fulltime jobs. In fact 15 million are classified as unemployed, but the Federal Government only claims 7.5 million are unemployed LOL.
Yep, the US is living high on the old hog. Perhaps electing Trump was on a whim, eh?
Oh I await the usual five-year old drivel from our resident Albanian Idiot about sj and CE of B92 forum LOL.

When it comes to economy, this is where things are.

After imposed sanctions Russia's economy started shrinking, but this trend was slowing down , and this year it's only 0.6%.
Both World Bank and IMF predict return of GROWTH at beginning of 2017 that will accelerate later in a year. Overall prediction for 2017 is 1.5% growth. That was calculated with oil prices at $50 per barrel. It's already higher, and it's not likely that will go bellow $50.
But, oil isn't so important in Putin's Russia - during his rule, oil and gas exports went from being 90% of Russia's export to 49% today.
Currency?
Last day of 2015 ruble was at 73.59 per dollar and at 80.43 per euro.
Today is (last day of trading this year) at 61.27 per dollar and at 64.52 per euro.

That's a rise of 20.1 percent against the dollar and by 24.7 percent against the euro this year.

I wouldn't be much concerned if I was Putin...

The west could not care less whether Putin bows down or not; the west neither wins nor looses from Putin's bow or lack thereof. But, yes, that's correct, Putin will bow down to Russia's economy, the same way the soviet leaders did. Ultimately, the Russian populace needs to eat and the stomach always, always wins - it's a law of nature that even almighty Vlad cannot change regardless of how much he tries :)
