These jets will be a nice support when it comes to break the Albanians neck once and for all.

Just a few days ago two Albanians were arrested in Germany for plotting a terrorist attack on a shopping mall...

You Albanians will lose in the end. Not because the Americans will realize that you're a bunch of chicken thieves, but because it is your nature.

There are two ians comenting here. I am the one who is NOT saying these planes are junk. In the right pilots hands they are capable of going head to head with anything. If they receive the latest upgrades they will be excellent.

When is the museum going to open ? We would like to come and see the antique , and laugh about it . Lol

(Tony Pocesta, 23 December 2016 17:17)

if you're keen to see antique jets in a Museum, go next door to Croatia. Croatia has a dozen MIG 21's that are unusable. In July 2013, Croatia made a deal with Ukraine, worth $17.6 million euros - the Ukrainians would overhaul seven MiG-21 jets & sell another five used jets to Croatia. The contract stated the five MiGs that would be sold to Croatia were previously owned by the Jordanian air force.

In March 2016, the story broke that the five jets were not formerly used by Jordan but were put together using old parts from, Bulgaria, Algeria & former Soviet states.

In regards to the other seven MIGs , Croatian military police investigators believe the documentation on the overhaul of the seven Croatian MIGs was fabricated & no overhaul work was at all.

Apparently only three of these antiques remain flight-worthy. Glad Serbia is getting these MIG-29's for free & not paying millions like Croatia did for even older MIG-21's...... Don't believe me?? Google "MIG21-Croatia-Ukraine"

I can, however, say that Russia is trying to win Serbia's long-term support
(Michael Thomas, 24 December 2016 13:22)

That's not hard at all. Serbia has already demonstrated that it can be bought off very cheaply (remember NIS, these rusty MIGs, etc). No wonder Russia "loves" Serbia because it is hard for Russia to find any other country ready to sell itself so cheaply as Serbia does!
----------

At some point Russia could cover Serbia with the most advanced air defences, at Russia's expense, to protect its Humanitarian Centre from ISIS air strikes.
(Michael Thomas, 24 December 2016 13:22)

Oh dear, ISIS air strikes in the Balkans?!!! lol Day dreaming would be a real understatement for what you write, dear!

As for Russia wasting money on Serbia, we saw that already a couple of years ago when Russia reduced the gas supplies to Serbia in the middle of the winter over some unpaid bill. That's the real Russia when it comes to actions; as far as words and empty gestures are concerned, of course Russia is so motherly with Serbia and poor Serbs are so naive to easily buy it!

Today I've hit about 400 km in Moscow and the region. Finally I spent 3-4 hours to visit city of Kolomna where the MIG-29 are made. Of course I went there not after the planes but I talked to my partner who used to work at the plant many years ago. He said that MIGs were of the same class as the SU-27 while I had believed that MIGs were just light jet fighters. But now I know that it's a serious thing and thus Serbs must be satisfied.

You sound Polish and if so you must be aware that Polish problems of the spare parts are mental problems. Looks like that Poles have no other national idea but hatred towars Russia. Strange as it is but but thanks to the Jesuits before 1920 Russian-Polish contradictions had only religious basis. Joseph Pilsudski made our problems smell nationalistic ...

5 times more Russians were killed in Poland to set you free than the 123 000 combat losses Poles suffered in 1939-45 but it did not help to change your mentallity. Meanwhile genetically Poles are pure Russians you know. And so is your language where 90% of the vocabulary is also Russian. Of course it sound different but the words are the same that I cannot say about most other Slavic languages.

I am not a military man and couldn't comment on how important these weapons are to Serbia's military. I can, however, say that Russia is trying to win Serbia's long-term support and wants To prevent Serbia falling under NATO occupation. I can not believe that Russia would give Serbia "junk" and expect anything positive from it. These weapons are certainly first class and suitable for Serbia's current needs and the technical capabilities of its armed forces. If Serbia proves to be a true friend of Russia, then more advanced weapons will be delivered. At some point Russia could cover Serbia with the most advanced air defences, at Russia's expense, to protect its Humanitarian Centre from ISIS air strikes. That will all come if the Serbian leadership breaks free of the EU and NATO.

"well known aim to discredit everything Serbia and Russia are doing."

(rote, 23 December 2016 12:29)
Well said Rote. I think there are more Croats and Albanians that come on this site then Serbs. Nothing wrong with that.

Zvon/Ian , you can try & sound like you know what you're talking about but none us have seen these jets up close so we don't know exactly what the Serbs are getting. Belarus, India, Poland, Iran, Ukraine are just some of the countries that use these jets. At the end of the day, the Serbs are getting these jets for FREE!!! Apparently, Poland needs some spare parts for their MIG-29s - too bad they have imposed sanctions on Russia. If the jets don't work out for Serbia, they could just sell the parts to Poland and make 100% commission.

Apologies, I "Zvon" wrote the following comment and not Ian:

As for the claims Russia's Air Force is performing admirably in Syria. They have admittedly improved their expeditionary capabilities remarkably and have not had any major embarrassing incidents.

However, their fighting against a non conventional force. Not a conventional fighting force with proper air cover and surface to air capabilities. Serbia are acquiring those rusty old MiGs to counter Croatias alleged rearmament. Not to fight guerrillas.

Additionally, Serbias MiGs will only have two years left of service life upon receiving them and have been mothballed for a long time. Their no way near at the same level and in the same condition as the Russian planes used in Syria. No one can take Russia's overpriced refurbishment for foreigners serious until the service has been completed and scrutinised. The Russians have a poor track record for refurbishments and maintenance.

Lenard, in Syria, Russia is using SU-24 (built in 1960's) & SU-25 (built in 1970's) & they're doing a fantastic job. Just recently, these jets helped President Assad retake Aleppo from the Jihadi's. Even though the Jihadi's are armed by Turkey & Saudi Arabia with the latest modern weaponry, they still couldn't hold off these Russian "1970's era military junk"

Ian

pre 7 godina

Ian, no details have been released anywhere about the modifications those MiG 29s will receive. Therefore it's premature to say they'll almost be on par with MiG 35s.

Also, those tanks Serbia will be receiving won't enhance the capabilities of Serbias tank fleet, as the following source clarifies:

http://www.b92.net/info/vesti/index.php?yyyy=2016&mm=12&dd=22&nav_category=12&nav_id=1212952

This means Serbia is paying over €200 million for six old, rusty MiGs that are no longer required by the Russians. Serbia is getting ripped off. That deal would have only been good / an actual gift, if Serbia received everything, including the modernisations, for free.

Ian

LENARD, guess what, all gen 4 fighters are 1970s tech. So unless serbia thinks it can pay 100 million+ for pak 50 fighters that arent even fully ready yet, this ia the best option. if you're keen to see antique jets in a Museum, go next door to Croatia.

That's the real Russia when it comes to actions; as far as words and empty gestures are concerned, of course Russia is so motherly with Serbia and poor Serbs are so naive to easily buy it!

Lenard

"We are in talks about getting six planes, which would mean we would have ten MiG-29s in our resources," he said, noting he was proud Serbia would pay for the purchase with its own money. Serbia is one weird "country" it is paying with old elderly pensioners money. When the Serbian fascist chetnik government cut pensions and workers salary's by 10%. Serbia cant compete with Croatia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZETNZCjurQs it already lost. All it managed to buy is two basic Mi 17 helicopters all these decades. The equipment that is functioning was stolen from ex Yugo republics Serbia is a poor country that's the reality.

You sound scared. As you should be. Especially if Serbia were to ever put sanctions on Croatian exports and nationalize Croat owned companies and property in Serbia. Which is what Serbia should have done a long time ago. It would cripple Croatia, which is what it deserves until it makes a full break with Nazi Ustashaism that killed over 700,000 Serbs, Jews and Roma in Jasenovac alone. Let's hope one day Serbia mans up and does what is needed.

Lenard, it just panic ! You simply fail to hide your fear of the future that promises poor prospects for your nazi country. Of course in a face to face war Croatian army will stop to exist within weeks. God knows where the Russians will succeed to stop the Serbs. Because too many of your crimes still remain unavanged. One thing you must be sure of is that rather soon technical superiority of the Serbs will be overwhelming. Don't you have real estate in Croatia ad hoq. Because EUNATOVATICAN won't move a finger this time.

After receiving all these weapons from Russia, Vucic says that Serbia is still "militarily neutral". hahaha Hey you gotta believe him. serbian soldiers drink cocacola from time to time, in order to keep the balance between east and west. lol
Now I guess, after this donation from Russia you'd need more cocacola that you usually drinks in order to be able to still keep the neutrality... Right?

And now Russia, in its "generosity" for Serbia,is asking for 200 million USD for 6 old junk, that is about 30 million USD per bird, 3 times more than what Romania paid the US for the modernisation of F16. And that when Romania's budget is much bigger than Serbia's. Are we nuts ?!

he should rather do something to save Air Serbia. Ethihad is getting ready to sell it's stakes in Air Serbia because they loose too much money. Ethihad will sell all his stakes in European Airlines, which includes Air Berlin and Alitalia way under price, because they simply want to get rid if those unprovitable investments. Sofar they lost 2.5 Billion alone, mostly with Air Serbia investment. James Hogan, the Ethihad chief will resign within the next 2 month.

MILO- i agree with you to an extent. I would have like to see us purchase the mig35 a 4++ fighter. But the mig 29 is exyreely comparable with the f16 and will be easier to maintain. Cant undervalue a plane with 2 engines either, the f16 has engine failure, its crashing due to onoy having one engine. Buying US made weapons that need constant maintainence is kind of a trap for us because the relationship is not genuine. Only 18 years ago f16s bombed serbia

There's a Russian saying СЛЫШАЛ ЗВОН, ДА НЕ ЗНАЕШЬ, ГДЕ ОН = YOU'VE HEARD THE RINGING BUT DON'T KNOW WHERE IT IS. You comment have stadard and well known aim to discredit everything Serbia and Russia are doing. If we sell or grant the planes you will find words to mud it. If we do nothing you will use the same mud. You hate us and it's a war. So I understand your motivation. We don't care about people like you and I personally feel compassion. You mixed light MIG jet fighters with the heavy SU bomber-fighters that we use in Syria.

To elaborate further on what Lenard said, the nucleus and foundation of every solid military are the soldiers on the ground and Serbia cannot even provide its' soldiers the minimum wage.

That is a disgrace for any countries standards. No soldiers from Serbia will be motivated to risk their lives with the knowledge that their families won't be taken care of by the state if they pay the ultimate sacrifice. Not one adversary of Serbia is fretting after hearing this.

Romania paid US 100 million USD for the modernisation and reconditioning of 12 F16 from Block 15 to Block 52, that is about 9 million USD per bird. These are more resilient birds and with more flying hours than MIG 29. That is why they are prepping to buy 12 more under similar comditions.

Ian

LENARD, guess what, all gen 4 fighters are 1970s tech. So unless serbia thinks it can pay 100 million+ for pak 50 fighters that arent even fully ready yet, this ia the best option. Like i said earlier i would have preferred new mig 35s, but that is still a gen 4++ fighter. Buying these mig 29s and modernizing is like buying used mig 35s with a couple less options.

Ian

pre 7 godina

Michael Thomas

pre 7 godina

That's not hard at all. Serbia has already demonstrated that it can be bought off very cheaply (remember NIS, these rusty MIGs, etc). No wonder Russia "loves" Serbia because it is hard for Russia to find any other country ready to sell itself so cheaply as Serbia does!
