Samardžić said that, according to this plan, Belgrade wouldn’t insist on taking control over the Kosovo borders, which would remain under the authority of the international police.

Samardžić said that Belgrade wasn’t given the opportunity to present its recommendations regarding Kosovo. “Ahtisaari provided three-hour long talks between the Serbian and Albanian side last year”, he told Reuters adding that the talks yielded no results.

“The only problem is that Mr. Ahtisaari failed to provide sufficient time for talks where we could present and elaborate on the concept we brought with us. It was mentioned at the main meeting on July 24, but no detailed discussion followed, since Mr. Ahtisaari carried out his idea on how the talks should be managed. Should the negotiations continue under different circumstances, we would advocate our position and this platform”, Samardžić said.

Reuters reported that the proposal which Samardžić had described seems similar to Ahtisaari’s, or what is speculated that Ahtisaari’s proposal contained. Details should be on the table on February 2.

“The U.S. and EU split tasks regarding Kosovo”

Belgrade daily Večernje Novosti reported that the United States and the EU have divided tasks and responsibilities regarding Kosovo.  Washington ought to work on settling the dispute with Russia over Kosovo, and the EU will talk Serbia into accepting its new status, the daily writes

A U.S. official who wanted to stay anonymous told the daily that Washington had already offered Russia to fill out a blank paper, naming its conditions under which it would allow the UN resolution on Kosovo to pass. The unnamed official said that the U.S. were ready to make concessions in the Caucasus region, according to Novosti.
