NOVI SAD Miroslav Parovic has said that activists in Novi Sad were prohibited by police from putting up posters calling for the resignation of Bojan Pajtic. Parovic, who is vice-president of the political organization Third Serbia, said the incident happened on Sunday. Plainclothes police officers inspected the identifications of around 15 Third Serbia activists and banned them from putting up those posters, threatening arrest, a statement said on Monday. It is not clear why it was done, since the activists had not violated any laws, the organization said, and protested the actions by the police. The statement says their campaign for an early election in Vojvodina was announced in the media. The campaign includes participation in the rally against the Vojvodina government last Saturday, activities within the Novi Sad assembly, a petition to replace Pajtic, posters and propaganda material whose appearance an message is according to the Serbian law. Publicizing this type of material is common practice in democracy and a legitimate tool in political struggle, the statement continues. Third Serbia asked the police why their vice president was not arrested when he said the same thing from the posters at the rally in Novi Sad on Saturday. "Are the vandals who write messages of death to Serbs and government officials on walls also identified and arrested, as well as those responsible for the graffiti 'Vojvodina republic'," the organization asked. Graffiti reading, "Serbs get out of Vojvodina" and "Death to Vucic" appeared in a number of locations in Vojvodina on Sunday. More posters, this time threatening Pajtic, were also put up. All this was taking place after a rally on Saturday, where 30,000 people asked for the withdrawal of the Vojvodina government declaration on Vojvodina's rights, resignation by Pajtic and early elections in the province.
