On Wednesday, Turkey issued a grant for Russia to lay the South Stream pipeline for the delivery of gas to Europe in Turkey's territorial waters. Turkey does not intend to be a partner in the pipeline project South Stream but this suggestion will be taken into consideration, Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz stated on the occasion. Turkey and Russia reach deal on S. Stream Reports said that Russian PM Vladimir Putin, who held talks with Yildiz today, described the deal as "a New Year's gift for Russia". Russian company Gazprom has a 50 per cent stake in the project, Italian partners hold a 20 per cent stake in the pipeline, while French EDF and German Wintershall hold a 15 per cent stake in the project each. South Stream is a pipeline for the transport of Russia's natural gas from the port of Novorossiysk, across the Black Sea to the Bulgarian port Varna, Serbia and Hungary, and to Austria and Italy. The pipeline will enter Serbia at the border with Bulgaria, while the main hub in the country will be located near Belgrade. The pipeline the exit the country on the border with Hungary, and competent bodies also agreed that one branch of the pipeline should lead to the Serb Republic (RS) in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
