Serbia's state-owned telecommunications company said it had requested a withdrawal of bids for the acquisition of two Kosovo-based companies. Telekom Srbija urged operators who have offered their bids to buy Kosovo Post Office and Telecommunications Company withdraw their offers, since the assets subject to the sale are confiscated property of Telekom Srbija. Telekom requests withdrawal of Kosovo bids In a letter which was sent to the said operators on Tuesday, the company stated that in case of any transfer of the seized assets of Telekom Srbija, the company will initiate proceedings before the courts of the countries in which the companies are based, as well as before European courts. “We will take all legal steps against all potential buyers and responsible authorities which do not prevent such illegal handling of usurped corporate property of Telekom Srbija,” the letter reads. In the document, the company reminds that “Serbia is a member of the International Telecommunication Union, while Kosovo is not,” and therefore, the license issued to Telekom Srbija by the Serbian Telecommunications Agency is the only legally valid license that allows an operator to conduct business in Serbia. The Kosovo Albanian authorities over the weekend conducted a campaign to either disable or destroy Telekom's base stations and transmitters in the Serb areas of the province, saying that the company operated there illegally. This was denounced on Tuesday by President Boris Tadic as yet another provocation coming from Pristina.
