Detention of the father of the killer boy has been extended

According to this decision, the detention of the defendant can last until October 30, it was announced on the court's website.

When considering the proposal of the High Public Prosecutor in Belgrade to extend Vladimir K.'s detention, the Court of Appeal took into account the fact that the evidence collected so far shows the existence of a well-founded suspicion that the defendant committed a serious crime against general security.

The appellate court stated that there are special circumstances of the criminal offense that refer to the existence of a well-founded suspicion that the defendant, over a long period of time, trained his minor son of 13 years old to handle firearms, ammunition and to practice shooting targets with a firearm, training in the handling of weapons on several occasions and provided firearms and ammunition and that at the same time, in the apartment where he lives with his minor son, he did not conscientiously store firearms and ammunition in such a way that they did not come into the possession of his minor son and did not endanger the safety of people and objects.

They also add that with those dangerous actions he caused danger to people's lives and bodies, as a result of which his minor son easily came into possession of a firearm in their apartment and took it with him to school, where he shot with that firearm, thanks to his previous training in handling and shooting firearms, took the lives of eight children and a guard and seriously injured six children and a teacher.

As a reason that there are special circumstances that, if he is released, he will repeat the criminal offense in a short period of time, they state, among other things, that several weapons and a large amount of ammunition were found in his apartment.

Also, there are legal reasons for detention, because the manner of execution and the seriousness of the consequences of the criminal offense led to public anxiety, which may threaten the smooth and fair conduct of criminal proceedings, since it is a well-known fact that there is a huge public interest in the outcome of this proceeding.

The appellate court also took into account that the investigation has not yet been completed, since it is necessary to obtain the findings and opinion of experts further in the course of the procedure, and to take any other actions that may be necessary during the investigation in order to shed light on all the circumstances of the aforementioned criminal act.

The Prosecution previously announced that Vladimir K. denied committing the crime during the hearing and presented his defense in detail. K.K. is not criminally responsible according to the current regulations, because he was not 14 years of age in time he committed the crime.
