BELGRADE The Association of Independent Electronic Media (ANEM) has requested from competent ministries to adopt a new Law on Advertising. The ANEM noted that the bill had a very important effect on the functioning of the media. ANEM calls for adoption of new law on advertising The Association requested in a letter to the Culture and Information Ministry and the Trade and Telecommunications Ministry an urgent adoption of the new Law on Advertising so the bill would be completely harmonized with media laws that were being drafted. ANEM assessed that it was necessary to adopt a completely new law because the existing does not represent an adequate legal framework in the changed conditions in the media market and that no changes would be able to make it appropriate for the existing situation. According to ANEM, the existing Law on Advertising is not in accordance with European legislation, especially with EU’s Audiovisual Media Services Directive. The association added in the release that the existing law also allows various interpretations which lead to serious problems in its implementation. The new law on advertising needs to govern some issues that the current law does not recognize, such as advertising in foreign programs that are aired in Serbia and other issues that have proven to be problematic, ANEM stressed.
