Discovery of Roman milestone halts works on Corridor 10 The 2.4 meter-high stone column from the Roman period is well-preserved. On the very route of Corridor 10, the archaeologists also unearthed the remains of a villa speading on 2,5000 square meters from the same period, so works will be suspended until further notice. Archaeologists of the National Library in Bela Palanka Zoran Mitic and Katarina Lazarevic said that that the milestone was dug out from the depth of 30 cm. The translation of the text inscribed in the stone proved that it dates to 230 A.D. "Apart from military diplomas and helmets, a milestone represents a major archaeological discovery, as there were not so many of them and they were usually placed at crossroads, near rest areas or at locations where passengers used to change horses," Cerskov explained.
