Daily claims Serbia has "3 million illegal firearms"

A Belgrade-based newspaper writes that there are currently "more than three million illegal firearms" in possession of the Serbian citizens.

A Belgrade-based newspaper writes that there are currently "more than three million illegal firearms" in possession of the Serbian citizens. According to the Blic daily, this means that there are "at least three illegally held guns for each one registered". Daily claims Serbia has "3 million illegal firearms" The article also quotes "domestic criminologists" as saying that "a minimum of 80 percent of all weapons hidden in houses, carried by criminals or used to commit crime is a leftover of wars in Bosnia and Croatia". Nowadays, according to the newspaper, illegal weapons are being smuggled via Macedonia into Kosovo and Metohija, and from there to Montenegro, or other parts of Serbia. Official statistics show that there are 1.2 million firearms in legal possession in Serbia, owned by 600,000 citizens. Employees of companies providing security are legally carrying some 50,000 more guns, while only 1,700 citizens also have a license to carry. The daily cites "a study done in Geneva", which reportedly showed that with 38 registered guns per 100 citizens, Serbia is behind only the United States, Yemen, and Iraq. Blic
