The Serbian government accepted on Thursday an amendment to the Law on VAT, abolishing VAT duty paid on baby food and other products.

The Serbian government accepted on Thursday an amendment to the Law on VAT, abolishing VAT duty paid on baby food and other products. The government put the amendment on the agenda as an initiative that came from President Boris Tadic. B92-led campaign success: VAT abolished on baby products Finance Ministry State Secretary Dusan Nikezic told a press conference following the government's sitting that the amendment relates to powdered milk, cots, baby food, high chairs and car seats for babies, and diapers. Tadic's inititative and the government's decision came as a result of a campaign launched by the B92 Fund, which teamed up with the bebac.com website, "Halo Beba" service and the Roditelj (Parent) association, as well as the Network of Organizations for the Children of Serbia. They all worked together to collect signatures of citizens to support the initiative to abolish VAT duty for this type of product. From March 2 until March 8, 180,000 signatures were collected and handed over to Parliament Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic and PM Mirko Cvetkovic, while Boris Tadic reacted by asking the government to find a solution to this issue. PM Cvetkovic sent a letter to B92 Fund President Veran Matic, where he said that he was very pleased that the government decided to pass the amendment related to the changes to the Law on VAT, and enable for a successful outcome of the campaign. Finance Ministry State Secretary Dušan Nikezić told a press conference following the government's sitting that the amendment relates to powdered milk, cots, baby food, high chairs and car seats for babies, and diapers.

Tadić's inititative and the government's decision came as a result of a campaign launched by the B92 Fund, which teamed up with the bebac.com website, "Halo Beba" service and the Roditelj (Parent) association, as well as the Network of Organizations for the Children of Serbia.
