Independence Union President Branislav Canak says the state will face bankruptcy once faced with "demands from all unions". "At one point the government will have many demands in front of it, and after answering those demands, the state will have to declare bankruptcy of that company called Serbia," Canak told Radio B92 in Belgrade on Wednesday. Union leader: State will face bankruptcy As for the demands coming from trade unions, concerning mostly salary raises, he said they were "a logical step and answer of workers to the bad situation of the society in our country that's been going on for decades". "This is not simply about the 2-dollar per day according to international standards, many here have approached that average which is the brink of poverty," said he. Canak also asserted the state should have "a long time ago" taken steps in order to prevent growing dissatisfaction of its public sector employees, and that it was "high time the state took matters into its own hands" - and answer the strikers' demands. Canak also warned that the health sector would follow the example of education unions who are currently on strike and "come up with their demands". A blackboard in a Serbian school reads 'strike'
