Serbian Church's right to property in Montenegro "examined"

The proceedings were launched based on a criminal complaint filed by Stevo Vucinic - the vice-president of the Metropolitan Council of the canonically unrecognized Montenegrin Orthodox Church (CPC).

The report said that Vucinic is contesting the legality of the registering of SPC-owned real estate in Montenegro. It includes all (Orthodox) church buildings, "including village cemeteries and churches built by locals themselves."

For this reason, "the CPC has for years been unable to hold its services in those churches it claims belong to the Montenegrin people."

In the past, Vucinic on several occasions claimed the SPC was making a huge profit in the Ostrog Monastery, that he said reached up to EUR 50 million a year, "by selling ecclesiastical objects without paying taxes to the state."
