Republic of Srpska (RS) President Milorad Dodik, president of Republika Srpska wanted Serbia to have democratic and legitimate elections in May. The Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD) leader added that he and his party supported Boris Tadic and his Democratic Party (DS) but would respect any result. RS president supports Tadic, DS "Of course we want Serbia to have democratic and legitimate elections, and we will respect the results, whatever they are. My party, the SNDS, has a cooperation agreement with the DS and we stand by that. We would like to see them win and we will support Boris Tadic for president of Serbia, there is no speculation about that," Dodik told the Banja Luka-based daily Nezavisne novine. He said the RS loved Serbia and that it would like to see Serbia become the most powerful and stable country in the Balkans and believed it had the potential for this. "It needs a stable structure. Serbia has been hurt badly in the past, unfairly humiliated by the international community in many processes. The Serbian people, not just those from Serbia but all of us, need to believe in a strong Serbian state named Serbia and a strong Serbian state named the Republic of Srpska," stressed Dodik. He noted that one should not shy away form calling the RS a state. "We have sovereignty in many things, why are we any less of a state than any EU member country," wondered Dodik. Talking about the RS’ position inside Bosnia-Herzegovina, Dodik said the latter was a great burden because it "costs a great deal" and brings nothing but problems. He stressed he was proud of the RS for having its own authentic stand regarding where it is and where it should go. Dodik added that this did not depend on Serbia or anyone else from the outside.
