Former Croatian General Mirko Norac convicted of war crimes against Serbs in Gospić and Medak Pocket was released on probation on Friday morning.

Former Croatian General Mirko Norac convicted of war crimes against Serbs in Gospic and Medak Pocket was released on probation on Friday morning. He was released after serving more than two thirds of his prison sentence. Croat war crimes general released on probation Norac was been in prison for more than 10 years, since March 2001. He was first sentenced to 12 years in prison for war crimes committed in the area of Gospic and then to six years for war crimes in Medak Pocket. When the second ruling became legally binding, the Supreme Court set down a single sentence of 15 years for both crimes. Croatian President Ivo Josipovic stripped Norac of his rank in September 2010. The Early Release Commission was not unanimous about Norac's release on probation since he showed no remorse for the crimes he had planned and committed. Norac was been in prison for more than 10 years, since March 2001.
