Women of Srebrenica NGO and Mothers of Srebrenica NGO are determined to file a lawsuit against former Hague Tribunal Chief Prosecutor Carla Del Ponte. The NGOs have already collected over 4, 000 signatures and are preparing the lawsuit. They will be represented by lawyer Damir Alic and a legal time from London, Radio Free Europe reports. Women of Srebrenica to sue Del Ponte Mothers and women of Srebrenica will demand the court to determine Del Ponte’s responsibility for destruction of items found in mass graves which were used as evidence by the Hague Tribunal. The process is, however, still at an early stage. “We will begin collecting evidence here in Bosnia-Herzegovina and abroad. A team of lawyers from London has already offered an expert help and they will help the Tuzla team in the process without any financial compensation,” Alic stated. “The majority of evidence is actually in the Hague Tribunal. The things they are going to give us will probably serve as evidence. The things they won’t give us, we will try to get them some other way,” the NGOs’ legal counsel pointed out. He also added that they should meet with lawyers Fergus Randolph and Hugo Mercer from London in the next 15 days, stressing that they had a lot of experience in such and similar cases. The victims’ families realize that this will be a long and difficult process. “We always say that they killed our children in Bosnia and the memories of our loved ones were killed in the house where justice is brought. That shouldn’t have happened, that was not their private property. If it belonged to someone, it belonged to the families,” Mother of Srebrenica NGO’s Hatidza Mehmedovic said. The victims’ families have also accused Bosniak liaison officer at the Hague Tribunal Amir Ahmic of being aware of the Hague Tribunal’s intention to destroy the victims’ personal items.
