The Finance Ministry will follow the European Commission's recommendations regarding implementation of dual excise tax on fuel, Tanjug learned at the ministry. However, the ministry noted that the EC had not yet delivered its response to the question which the ministry sent in mid-January as to whether and in which fields Serbia had violated the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) by adopting the bill of amendments to the Excise Duty Law in December 2010. “Ministry will follow EC recommendations” The Finance Ministry will adhere to the EC recommendations, but details such as changing the bill of amendments to the Law on Excise Duty could be agreed on only after the Ministry receives the EC's response, Tanjug learned at the Finance Ministry. Head of the EC delegation in Belgrade Vincent Degert stated on Friday that by adopting the system of dual excise duty for oil and gas derivatives, Serbia violated the SAA. He also said that the Serbian government would be required to change these measures. Following the adoption of the provision on the implementation of different excise duties for petroleum products, Finance Minister Diana Dragutinovic called on the EC delegation in Belgrade in mid-January to issue an official stand on whether the amendments to the Excise Duty Law are contrary to the SAA and EU directives. In a letter addressed to Degert, Dragutinovic reminded that the EU directive does not prohibit the establishment of different excise duties for different types of gas and diesel fuels.
