Turk FM wants Serbia to apologize

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that Serbia must apologize for the crime committed against Muslims in Srebrenica.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that Serbia must apologize for the crime committed against Muslims in Srebrenica. He said that his country will begin a new initiative for further improving relations between Turkey, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia. Turk FM wants Serbia to apologize "Serbia will soon apologize for the crime in Srebrenica in 1995, in which many thousands of Bosniaks (Muslims) died," he said. Davutoglu said that relations between Serbia and Turkey, which endured almost a thousand years of hostility, have "drastically improved" lately, adding that in the last six months, he has met with Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic 11 times. He said that the Balkan region is one of Turkey's foreign policy priorities currently, especially Bosnia. Ankara has, with that goal in mind, initiated tri-lateral mechanisms for dialogue: one between Turkey, Bosnia and Serbia, and the other between Turkey, Bosnia and Croatia, in order to find solutions for problems in Bosnia. Turkey supports Bosnia being accepted into the NATO action plan as soon as possible, which is a prerequisite for become an Alliance member. It also supports the abolishment of the Schengen visa regime for Bosnian citizens, which was recently abolished for citizens of Serbia, Macedonia and Montenegro.
