Slovakian PM: Ahtisaari plan can change

“Other states have begun to realize that Ahtisaari’s plan should undergo changes,” he added.

Even though neither of them said how Slovakia and Russia would vote when the new Kosovo resolution made the UN Security Agenda, Fico stressed it was clear that “the current proposal was unacceptable and would never gain Russia’s support.”

German Defense Minister Franz Josef Jung said Friday in Priština that there was a plan to settle the final status of Kosovo this spring.

“The drafting of a new resolution on Kosovo is underway, and it will likely be put on the Council’s agenda later this month. It would be unwise to speculate whether it would be adopted then,” Jung said.

“I believe we should discuss and try to reach a joint decision. If we succeeded in that, it would not take more that four weeks to pass the resolution,” he argued.

He underscored that the UN Security Council’s backing of the future Kosovo status was "of key importance for the stability and safety of Kosovo.”

Panama's Vice President and Foreign Minister Samuel Lewis Navarro told Tanjug news agency that “Panama wished to contribute to finding a stable and long-term solution for Kosovo.”

He refused to answer as to how Panama, being a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, would vote in case the draft resolution proposed independence for the province.

Ahtisaari’s continues to lobby for his plan

UN special Kosovo envoy Martti Ahtisaari will visit Sweden and Germany next week in a bid to garner support for his Kosovo plan, his spokesperson Remi Dourlot has said.

Ahtisaari will spend Monday in Sweden’s capital Stockholm and attend the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) session dedicated to Kosovo.

Dourlot added that Ahtisaari would then continue to Berlin Tuesday where he was expected to meet with German Foreign Ministry representatives.

According to Dourlot, Ahtisaari’s deputy Albert Rohan will travel to Zagreb Friday.
