The Serbian Justice Ministry sent a request for Dobrosav Gavric’s extradition to South Africa on Friday. Gavric was sentenced to 35 years in prison for the murder of Zeljko Raznatovic Arkan in 2000. She said he hoped Serbia's request would receive a positive response very soon. Serbia recently sent a motion to Interpol for the temporary detainment of Gavric, who surrendered to the authorities in South Africa on December 27. Gavric and his accomplice Milan Djuricic were arrested in 2001 and in October 2006 sentenced to 35 and 30 years in prison for murder and plotting a conspiracy to kill Arkan. Both pleaded not guilty, saying they just happened to be at the crime scene. They were released pending trial in October 2003 and have been on the run ever since. Arkan, who was indicted by the Hague Tribunal crimes against humanity during the 1992-1995 Bosnian war, was killed on January 15, 2000 in Belgrade. Serbian Justice Minister Snežana Malović told Tanjug she had signed the extradition request Thursday and it had been forwarded to South Africa.

She said he hoped Serbia's request would receive a positive response very soon.
