The trial of former Police General Vlastimir Djordjevic, accused of war crimes committed in 1999 against Kosovo Albanians, is scheduled to begin on January 27. Djordjevic, the former deputy interior minister and chief of public security, is accused of complicity in the murder, persecution, deportation and forced displacement of Albanian civilians. The indictment states that he commanded and had effective control of Serbian police units operating in Kosovo. Djordjevic was arrested in 2007 in Montenegro and extradited to The Hague. The trial is the fifth and final one before the Tribunal related to crimes committed in Kosovo.

Ex-police chief to stand trial for Kosovo crimes

Some of the victims mentioned in Đorđević’s indictment were found in a mass grave in Batajnica in 2001.

Đorđević was arrested in 2007 in Montenegro and extradited to The Hague. The trial is the fifth and final one before the Tribunal related to crimes committed in Kosovo.
