The Serbian dinar (RSD) is one of the most stable national currencies both in the region and in Europe, says the Serbian central bank chief. Governor of the National Bank of Serbia (NBS) Dejan Soskic spoke on Wednesday and added that Serbia is entering a period of stability of the local currency and low inflation. "RSD among most stable European currencies" Last week, the NBS made a timely intervention by selling EUR 78.5 million on the inter-bank foreign exchange market, Soskic stated in an interview for B92, adding that the most important thing now is that the market was solvent and that citizens and the economy could purchase or sell foreign currency at any moment. In 2012, the inflation should range between the target limits of 4.5 plus or minus 1.5 percent, Soskic stated. He noted that Serbia's growth rate in 2012 should be positive and total 0.5 per cent, while the country should gradually exit from the crisis in the coming year and its economy should record a more substantial growth in case Serbia manages to maintain its macroeconomic stability this year. In case the government continues to work in keeping with the International Monetary Fund and respect budget framework, investors will take note of it, the governor stated.
