PUPS leader satisfied with pension deal

Deputy Prime Minister Jovan Krkobabic said that his pensioners’ party (PUPS) is content with the agreement reached with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He said that the decision to pay out a one-off bonus of RSD 5,000 by mid-October and to raise salaries and pensions three times over the course of next year is within the state's realistic capabilities and acceptable to pensioners. "If you raise pensions by say five percent, then you have permanently increased the base pension by that percentage and any future increases build on that amount. One-time aid, on the other hand, is not built into the base pension and does not affect future pension growth or decreases," Krkobabic said. He said that the announced pension increase would not disturb the macroeconomic stability in the country. (Beta)
