Chinese company interested in automaker?

A technical team from the Chinese Dong Feng will visit with FAP company officials next week to look into the technical capabilities of the factory. The southwestern Serbia-based Priboj Automobile Factory (FAP) General Director Mirko Stojovic said that FAP expects a letter of intention after the visit regarding interest in privatizing the company and a decision for investing in its production. The Chinese announced the possibility that FAP will begin producing two types of Dong Feng trucks, which would be assembled and sold in the countries of the former Yugoslavia and extended region. “Interest in the purchase of FAP was also shown by potential buyers from Turkey, Syria and Russia, but the Privatization Agency will not announce a third tender until it receives a letter of intention and guarantees that a serious buyer has arrived,” Stojovic said. He explained that that FAP has closed 40 contracts to produce over 200 trucks which will be sold to buyers for subsidized prices. Stojovic said that the 100 subsidized trucks, which the government is sponsoring, will be delivered by the end of the year, and that there will then be 50 trucks delivered monthly next year. FAP is also set to deliver nine trucks ordered from Syria. The manufacturer is also making five prototype APCs, dubbed Lazar, for the Serbian Army (VS).
