About EUR 600mn in direct foreign investments arrived in Serbia in the first three months of 2009, the Serbian Chamber of Commerce (PKS) has said. Preliminary data show that the net inflow of direct foreign investments in January was about USD 90mn, about USD 560mn in February, including USD 509mn for the purchase of the majority shares in NIS by the Russian Gazprom. EUR 600 FDI in first quarter Before the start of the economic crisis, estimates were that in 2009 Serbia could have attracted a total of some EUR 3bn in FDI, but the tempo achieved so far indicates that the inflow of investments will be far below the projected levels. PKS data also shows that the biggest investor in Serbia so far has been Norway's Telenor with its EUR 1.6bn acquisition of a Serbian mobile operator almost three years ago. It is followed by Gazpromneft of Russia with a total of EUR 947mn invested.

EUR 600 FDI in first quarter

Before the start of the economic crisis, estimates were that in 2009 Serbia could have attracted a total of some EUR 3bn in FDI, but the tempo achieved so far indicates that the inflow of investments will be far below the projected levels.

PKS data also shows that the biggest investor in Serbia so far has been Norway's Telenor with its EUR 1.6bn acquisition of a Serbian mobile operator almost three years ago.

It is followed by Gazpromneft of Russia with a total of EUR 947mn invested.
