Moscow: NATO has begun accelerated mass rearmament?
The North Atlantic Alliance has shifted to a plan for accelerated mass rearmament, according to a report titled “Scalability and Affordability: A New Approach to the Militarization of NATO and Its Allies,” prepared by the Roscongress Foundation.
“An analysis of the United States’ weapons procurement plans and the international Eurosatory 2026 exhibition in Paris points to signs of an impending shift in the existing military-technical strategy of NATO countries,” the foundation’s report states, according to a document obtained by Sputnik.
According to the Russian news outlet, the Alliance is moving away from individual, expensive, high-tech target-destruction systems and instead focusing on simplifying all components. This includes the use of civilian technologies and dual-use products, the document adds.
“Such an approach not only reduces the cost of the finished product and shortens production time, but, more importantly, makes it possible to rapidly increase production volumes. In the long term, this leads to the accelerated mass deployment of long-range offensive weapons across land, sea and air platforms,” the Roscongress Foundation added.
Earlier, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said the Alliance had seen no signs that Russia was preparing to launch an attack, but stressed that European countries should be prepared for certain prolonged “hybrid threats.”
Meanwhile, NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe, U.S. General Alexus Grynkewich, warned at the Warsaw Security Forum that NATO is prepared to respond to any military attack.
He said he does not believe war is inevitable, but that the Alliance is ready to engage in combat immediately if it is attacked.
“If anyone is crazy enough to attack us, we will fight back,” Grynkewich said.
