According to him, 625 people were arrested, while 199 people were injured, including 83 police officers.

He condemned the “targeting of police officers, the throwing of projectiles and violence,” as well as “urban violence.”

According to him, police intervened with “a great deal of restraint,” while the police have launched investigations into the students who were injured.

“These are minors who are confronting the police. Clearly, the police are using weapons such as tear gas proportionately,” Nuñez said.

According to Le Figaro, the high school student movement is continuing, encouraged in part by individuals from the left-wing La France Insoumise (LFI) party and supported by university students.

LFI leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon denied earlier on Wednesday the accusations by French President Emmanuel Macron that the party was inciting unrest during high school student protests across the country.

French Higher Education Minister Philippe Baptiste accused LFI of encouraging violence during high school blockades, which are continuing in several cities across the country, while French President Emmanuel Macron said political leaders should not join the protesters in order to “spread fear and encourage the worst.”

High school students across France have been blocking school entrances since the beginning of the week, while civil servants have gone on strike over planned budget cuts and working conditions.

The protests have intensified in recent days. In Paris, around 10 percent of schools have been blocked, mostly in the suburb of Saint-Denis. In Lille, containers were set on fire outside a high school yesterday, while clashes broke out between police and students in Lyon.
