Macron: "France is ready"

"There is no taboo for France and I am completely ready to recognize the Palestinian state, but I believe that this recognition must come at a useful time. I will not make a recognition under emotions," he said at a joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Figaro reported.

The possible recognition of a Palestinian state has sparked unrest in the French National Assembly today, where a member of the Insubordinate France (La France Insoumise) was expelled after waving the Palestinian flag.

President of the French National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, condemned the "unacceptable" behavior of Sébastien Delogu, a member of Parliament with La France Insoumise (LFI), and adjourned the session.

When asked by the leader of environmentalists in the assembly, Chantal Chatelain, whether France will recognize Palestine, Prime Minister Gabriel Attal accused the MP of calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, but not doing the same when it comes to the release of Israeli hostages.

The state of Palestine has so far been recognized by 145 of the 193 UN member states, according to the Palestinian Authority, but no G7 country has taken such a step.

Earlier today, Ireland, Spain and Norway announced that they had officially recognized an independent Palestine.
