Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said today that Russia remains ready for peace negotiations on Ukraine, responding to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s statement that new proposals and ideas are needed to resolve the conflict.

He added that Russia is seeing what he described as "positive momentum" on the battlefield.

Marco Rubio previously said that new proposals are needed to resolve the Ukraine crisis, assessing that previous initiatives were not acceptable to Ukraine and remain unacceptable today.

Speaking on the sidelines of the ASEAN ministerial meeting in Manila, Rubio said that Washington would be ready to present new ideas when the right moment comes.

Peskov also assessed that it is too early to speak about an acceleration of efforts to resolve the Ukraine conflict, despite the continuation of contacts between Moscow and Washington.

"I would not be overly optimistic. It is good that contacts are continuing, but at this moment there are no grounds to talk about new momentum or an acceleration of the process," he said.

According to him, dialogue with the American side is continuing through existing working channels, and Moscow expects talks to continue face to face once U.S. negotiators are able to travel to Russia.
