Shock in the Ukrainian Armed Forces: Commander found dead PHOTO

The commander of the 154th Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Kononnikov, was found dead on Sunday, Ukrainian military and police authorities said. The circumstances of his death are not yet known and are under investigation.

“On Sunday, June 28, the commander of the 154th Separate Mechanized Brigade, Colonel Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Kononnikov, was found dead. The circumstances of the officer’s death are under investigation,” the statement said.

The same statement noted that Kononnikov was “an officer loyal to Ukraine and the army, a responsible commander who cared about his soldiers and the needs of the unit.”

The police of the Zaporizhzhia region later stated that the commander of a military unit had been found dead with a gunshot wound. Although his name was not officially disclosed, Ukrainian military sources claim it was Kononnikov, according to The Kyiv Independent.

Ukrainian authorities have not yet released additional information about the circumstances of the death or a possible motive. It is known that investigators have opened a criminal case under Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which pertains to murder.
