Earlier this evening, Donald Trump announced that the United States would respond after it was determined that the Iranian military was responsible for shooting down a U.S. AH-64 Apache helicopter over the Strait of Hormuz.

The strikes began at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time (ET), corresponding to 11:00 p.m. Central European Time (CET).

In a statement, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said the strikes were carried out on the orders of Donald Trump “in response to the downing of a U.S. Army Apache helicopter.”

“The mission is a proportional response to unjustified Iranian aggression,” the statement added.
