Iran has accused the United States of “piracy” and the unlawful seizure of Iranian commercial ships, claiming that Tehran has the right to oppose such actions, according to a letter by Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani.

In the letter addressed to the President of the Security Council and the UN Secretary-General, Iravani stated that the United States is intercepting and confiscating Iranian vessels on the high seas, including the tankers “Majestic” and “Tiffany,” along with large quantities of oil, as reported by Iranian Press TV.

He described these actions as a violation of the UN Charter and international law, calling them an “act of aggression” and “state-sponsored piracy and terrorism.”

The letter urges the Security Council to condemn the seizures and demand the release of the vessels and assets, arguing that the United States bears full responsibility for the consequences.

“Such behavior is nothing but another clear example of America’s reliance on lawlessness and represents a flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter,” Iravani wrote.

Iranian officials have also announced a military response in case of further actions. A deputy commander of the IRGC navy said that naval forces would use “new capabilities” and “surprising tactics” against U.S. targets if escalation continues. Reports suggest Iran has previously carried out retaliatory strikes against U.S. and Israeli targets in the region, while U.S. officials assess that significant portions of Iran’s military capabilities remain operational despite ongoing conflicts.

Tehran has also rejected the possibility of returning to negotiations with Washington while, as it states, seizures and blockades continue.
