France warns – "America is playing a solo game"
Speaking about the U.S. launch of military operations against Iran, the Chief of the French Armed Forces, Fabien Mandon, stated that France was taken aback by the actions of its ally.
“They have surprised us, the American ally, who still remains an ally, but is becoming increasingly unpredictable and no longer even tries to inform us when making decisions to launch military operations,” Mandon said.
He added that such behavior directly affects the security of France, as well as its strategic interests.
French President Emmanuel Macron, who spoke with Donald Trump last week about the conflict, previously emphasized that France “is not a party to the conflict” in Iran, according to Sky News.
He also stressed that Paris, under the current circumstances, will not participate in “opening or clearing the Strait of Hormuz,” which the U.S. president sharply criticized Western allies for.
However, Macron announced that France could provide maritime escort if needed after hostilities cease.
“We intervened in Afghanistan at the request of the Americans, who cited Article 5 of NATO, and then decided to withdraw without informing us,” Mandon said at a security and defense forum in Paris, adding:
“Now they have decided to intervene in the Middle East, again without prior notification.”
