Iran is ready for war; "If the U.S. strikes, we will attack Israel"
Ali Shamkhani, defense adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and former secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, warned that Tehran is ready for a potential war and would attack Israel in the event of a U.S. strike.
“We are ready for a possible war. If the U.S. attacks, we will certainly strike Israel. Our enemies are trying to swallow Iran, but that is impossible, because it will be a bite stuck in their throat, as they will never succeed,” Ali Shamkhani said in an interview with the Al Mayadin TV channel, affiliated with Hezbollah.
Commenting on the security situation, Shamkhani stated that Iran is prepared for war but does not seek conflict, warning that any attack on Iran would lead to a broader regional confrontation. He added that in the event of a U.S. strike, the response would also include Israel, because, as he said, “the two countries cannot be viewed separately.”
Shamkhani emphasized that Iran will not abandon support for resistance movements in the region and sees the pressures on Tehran as a result of its role in this context. He stressed that negotiations with the U.S. are only possible if threats and pressures are lifted, and that “there is no question of expanding talks to issues beyond the nuclear program.”
He underlined that there is no possibility of transferring Iran’s nuclear stockpiles abroad, saying there is “no reason for that,” and that Iran’s nuclear program is strictly peaceful.
According to Shamkhani, Tehran is willing to reduce uranium enrichment from 60% to 20% if the other side demonstrates seriousness and offers appropriate concessions. He reiterated that Iran does not seek to produce nuclear weapons, citing the religious prohibition issued by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Commenting on the talks expected on Friday between U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Turkey, Shamkhani said the negotiations would initially be indirect but could quickly move to direct talks if a mutual understanding is established.
