Shock in Slovakia: Lajčák resigns after Epstein correspondence is made public
Former Slovak Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajčák announced that, following publication of his communications with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, he is stepping down from his position as advisor to Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, Slovak media reported
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico announced that he will accept Lajčák’s resignation, but regarding Lajčák’s critics, he said he hasn’t seen 'so much hypocrisy' in a long time, reports the portal Dnevnik N.
'Miro has once again proven himself to be an excellent diplomat, and I accept his offer to end our collaboration, even though all of us—not just me—are losing an incredible source of experience in diplomacy and foreign policy. It is strange that a similar symbiosis of the media, the opposition, and government parties did not target opposition leader Šimeček, who, through grant frauds at both the Slovak and EU level, represents a far greater risk to our country’s reputation than Prime Minister’s advisor Miroslav Lajčák,' Fico’s statement reads.
In the U.S., new documents regarding Jeffrey Epstein were released on Friday, including communications between Miroslav Lajčák and the convicted sex offender.
On Friday, the largest batch of court documents on Epstein was published, comprising three million pages, 180,000 photographs, and 2,000 videos.
Epstein, a millionaire known for associating with numerous celebrities, died in prison in 2019 while awaiting federal sex trafficking charges; the New York medical examiner ruled his death a suicide.
