"If the Americans attack Greenland, it is war" VIDEO

Danish MP and Chairman of the Danish Parliament’s Defense Committee, Rasmus Jarlov, warned in an interview with CNN that a potential U.S. military intervention in Greenland would mean war between Denmark and the United States.

Jarlov said that the threats from U.S. President Donald Trump, who still does not rule out the use of force to take over Greenland, are serious, and that Denmark would be irresponsible not to take them seriously.

“If there were an invasion by U.S. forces, that would be war, and we would fight against each other,” Jarlov told CNN, emphasizing that Denmark has an obligation to defend its territory, population, and around 57,000 citizens living in Greenland.

“This is not the America we know”

Jarlov stated that Trump’s statements have already caused serious damage to trust within the transatlantic alliance and that it will be very difficult to restore relations to the level they were previously.

“The shock is that the United States turned against us so quickly and so aggressively. It is dangerous for us to be dependent on America as we were before,” he said, adding that Denmark still wants to cooperate with the U.S. to preserve NATO and Western security.

He warned that Denmark can never agree to hand over territory and people who do not want to be part of the United States.

“This is not the America we know”

Jarlov stated that Trump’s actions are not those of the America they know. “This is not a country that attacks peaceful, friendly neighbors and wages conquest wars,” he said, emphasizing that Greenland has belonged to Denmark for centuries and that there is no basis for U.S. territorial claims.

“We will defend Greenland, regardless of U.S. strength”

When asked how far Denmark is willing to go to defend this “red line,” Jarlov said that Greenland will be defended, no matter the military superiority of the U.S.

“We know that the Americans are militarily stronger than us, but it is our duty to defend our country and our people,” he said, adding that such a conflict would be catastrophic even for the United States itself.

He also pointed out that a U.S. takeover of Greenland would be completely illogical, even from an economic and security standpoint.

“The U.S. already has access to Greenland. If you annexed it, you would incur enormous costs. You would have to manage the territory, deal with a population that would never recognize U.S. authority, and take on all the costs Denmark bears today,” Jarlov said, noting that Denmark has invested around $14 billion in Greenland’s defense over the past two years.

Europe stands with Denmark

Jarlov expressed confidence that Europe will remain united despite pressures from Washington, including threats of tariffs and possible security consequences.

“Everyone sees that this is unreasonable and makes no sense. We are very confident that we have the support of European allies, as well as other countries like Canada,” he said.

He concluded that Denmark is currently under the greatest pressure and facing its most serious threat since World War II, emphasizing that international support in this situation is crucial.
