The session is scheduled to begin at 3:00 PM New York time, or 9:00 PM Central European Time, according to the Somali mission.

"The presidency intends to hold a meeting on the situation in Iran under the agenda item ‘Situation in the Middle East,’" the Somali mission said.

U.S. President Donald Trump threatened on Monday to attack Iran if American military and commercial facilities are targeted.

He previously stated that the United States is ready to respond if security forces are ordered to open fire on protesters in the Islamic Republic.

At the end of last year, protests erupted in Iran due to the devaluation of the Iranian rial, which affected wholesale and retail prices and caused sharp fluctuations in the exchange rate.

Reza Pahlavi, the son of Iran’s Shah, who was overthrown in 1979, last week called for a general strike and the occupation of strategically important streets and buildings, and asked Trump to intervene.

In some Iranian cities, protests have escalated into clashes with security forces, accompanied by chants against the current political system, and a large number of casualties have been reported on both sides.
