Acknowledged: There is great hatred between Putin and Zelensky; "Joe was a fool"
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that peace talks between Ukraine and Russia are ongoing and progressing "normally," but that there is great "hatred" between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
"Between these two leaders, Putin and Zelensky, there is enormous hatred. We are talking. Everything is going well. The war must stop," Trump told reporters at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, as published on the White House YouTube channel.
When asked by reporters whether he would insist that Christmas be the ultimate deadline for a peace agreement, Trump said he hopes the conflict will end.
"We are no longer losing money on this war. (Former President Joseph) Biden gave $350 billion, and who knows what happened with that. Now we are selling missiles, planes, and the best military equipment to NATO… So, we are not throwing money away like we did under Biden. He was a fool, and what he did to the country is terrible," the U.S. leader emphasized.
He reiterated that he ended eight wars and that "everyone is tired of this war."
In recent weeks, the United States has renewed its efforts to mediate a peace agreement between Moscow and Kyiv. After several rounds of talks, a draft document is considered more acceptable to Kyiv, but differences remain regarding territories and security guarantees.
The Ukrainian delegation continued negotiations in Germany on December 14 and 15, with the participation of U.S. special presidential envoy Stephen Biegun and Jared Kushner.
In Miami, from December 19 to 21, the Ukrainian and U.S. delegations held a series of meetings on the peace plan and spoke with Russian representatives; however, there were no signs of progress, nor were new meetings announced.
