U.S. Ultimatum to Ukraine: Accept Trump's Plan, or…
The U.S. has threatened to cut off intelligence sharing and weapons deliveries to Ukraine in order to force it to agree to the framework of a peace deal mediated by the U.S., Reuters reports, citing two people familiar with the situation.
Sources speaking on condition of anonymity said that Kyiv is under greater pressure from Washington than during any previous peace negotiations, and that the U.S. wants Ukraine to sign the framework agreement by next Thursday.
“They want to stop the war and they want Ukraine to pay a price,” one source said.
A delegation of senior U.S. military officials met with President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv on Thursday to discuss the path to peace.
The U.S. ambassador to Ukraine and the military public affairs chief who traveled with the delegation described the meeting as successful and said that Washington requested an “aggressive timeline” for signing the document between the U.S. and Ukraine.
Recall that the proposed peace deal, secretly developed by U.S. Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev, contains 28 points that have been widely characterized as “favorable to the Kremlin.”
The agreement would involve painful concessions for Ukraine, which would have to agree to give up more territory than Russia currently controls, as well as limit its military and armaments, and abandon its NATO membership aspirations.
