New threat: The army is marching; Putin, they are approaching the border
Military exercises began today in northern Finland, 100 kilometers from the Russian border.
More than 2,000 soldiers are taking part in the artillery exercises, including a unit from Poland. Finland’s Ground Forces previously announced that the drills will be held in Rovajärvi — the largest training area in Western Europe — located in Lapland, and will run until November 25, reports RIA Novosti.
The first phase of the artillery drills was held at the same training ground from November 8 to 16, with around 200 personnel participating.
Russia’s ambassador to Finland, Pavel Kuznetsov, said in February that Finland has been increasing the number of military exercises since joining NATO in April 2023.
A total of 115 maneuvers are planned for this year.
Kuznetsov also recalled that in 2024 Finnish territory was, for the first time, included in major NATO exercises.
