World on the edge: Trump and Putin in contact, Zelensky awaits
A phone conversation has begun between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The U.S. outlet Axios, citing a source, reported earlier that the two leaders would hold a phone conversation.
According to the source, the topic of the discussion will be the conflict in Ukraine.
The call is taking place a day before President Trump is set to host Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House.
Trump and Zelensky are expected to discuss the possibility of Ukraine receiving long-range Tomahawk missiles.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Last week, Trump said he had explained to Zelensky that he might issue a new ultimatum to Putin: “Either Russia begins serious peace talks, or Ukraine gets the Tomahawks.”
