"Hamas remains open to considering any proposal that could end the war in Gaza, but any agreement must protect Palestinian interests, ensure a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and end the war," the official said.

When asked about the group's disarmament, the official said it was a "red line" for Hamas.

"The weapons of the Palestinian resistance movement are a red line as long as the occupation lasts. The issue of weapons can only be considered within the framework of a political solution that guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the borders of 1967," he warned.

Earlier, Hamas official Mahmoud Mardawi told Al Jazeera that the Palestinian militant group has not yet received a written plan for peace in Gaza.

He stated that the US proposal for Gaza presented at the press conference after the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "leans towards the Israeli perspective".

"If they refuse..."

Trump said earlier today that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during talks at the White House, agreed with the US plan to end the war in the Gaza Strip and warned that he would support Netanyahu and Israel in destroying the militant Palestinian group if it rejected the peace proposal.

The White House's Gaza peace plan, announced today by the White House, proposes an end to the conflict between Israel and members of the Palestinian militant group Hamas, as well as the return of all hostages held by the group, living and dead, within 72 hours of Israel's public acceptance of the agreement.

According to the plan, if both sides agree to the proposal, the war in the Gaza Strip "will end immediately".

Israeli forces will withdraw to agreed lines to prepare for the release of the hostages, and when all hostages are freed, Israel will release 250 Palestinians serving life sentences and 1,700 Gazans detained since the start of the war on October 7, 2023, the plan said, among other things.
