"The countries closest to the border with Russia will have a wall of drones"

The EU countries closest to the border with Russia have reached an agreement on the need for a "drone wall", which would have advanced capabilities for detecting, tracking and intercepting enemy drones, EU Defense Commissioner Andrius Kubilius said.

Speaking in Finland after a video conference with defense ministers from frontline EU member states, Kubilius said there is a need to develop additional drone capabilities, and that a detailed technical roadmap will be defined with national experts, Reuters reports.

Denmark's Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen said today that the country has no plans to invoke NATO Article 4, after drone strikes near civilian and military sites shut down air traffic in the country earlier this week.

Article 4 of the NATO agreement states that the members of the North Atlantic Treaty will consult whenever, in the opinion of any of them, the territory, political independence or security is threatened.

"Article 4 has been activated nine times in the entire history of NATO, and twice recently in connection with Poland and Estonia," the minister told reporters.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has linked an earlier drone incident that closed Copenhagen airport overnight on Monday, September 22, to suspected Russian drone activity across Europe, but without providing evidence, which Moscow has denied.
