Canada recognizes the State of Palestine and offers its partnership in building the promise of a peaceful future for both the State of Palestine and the State of Israel. Canada is doing this as part of coordinated international efforts to preserve the possibility of a two-state solution,'' the statement says, and emphasizes that the recognition is in line with the principles of self-determination and basic human rights in line with the United Nations Charter and Canadian policy.

The announcement emphasizes that the recognition of the State of Palestine under the leadership of the Palestinian Authority empowers those who strive for peaceful coexistence and the "end of Hamas".

"This in no way legitimizes terrorism, nor is it a reward for it. Moreover, it in no way threatens Canada's firm support for the State of Israel, its people and their security, which can ultimately only be guaranteed by achieving a comprehensive two-state solution,'' the statement said.

It is recalled that the policy of every Canadian government since 1947 has been to support a two-state solution in order to achieve lasting peace in the Middle East.

United Kingdom officially recognized Palestine

Great Britain officially recognized the State of Palestine today, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said.

"To renew hope for Palestinian-Israeli peace and a two-state solution, the United Kingdom today officially recognizes the state of Palestine," Starmer said, the Guardian reported.

Starmer pointed out that "ordinary people", both Palestinians and Israelis, deserve to rebuild their lives.

"Almost two years after the barbaric attacks of October 2023, Hamas is still holding hostages and refusing to hand over the bodies of the deceased hostages," Starmer said. He pointed out that the recognition of the State of Palestine is not a "reward" for Hamas.

"We have already imposed sanctions on Hamas, and we will impose new sanctions on some of their members," Starmer said.

He also pointed out that "starvation and daily Israeli attacks on civilians in Palestine cannot be tolerated."

Australia officially recognized the State of Palestine

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced that the country officially recognized the "independence and sovereignty of the State of Palestine" today.

In a document published by Albanese on Platform X, it is stated that Australia recognizes "the legitimate and long-standing aspirations of the people of Palestine to have their own state".

"Australia's recognition of Palestine today, alongside Canada and United Kingdom, is part of a co-ordinated international effort to build a new momentum for a two-state solution," the statement said. The document states that the beginning of such possibilities would be "the entry into force of the cease-fire in Gaza and the release of the hostages", who have been held captive by the Palestinian militant group Hamas since October 2023.

It is added that the international community has set "clear demands" before the Palestinian Authority.

"The terrorist organization Hamas must have no role in Palestine," it states, among other things, in the document on the Australian recognition of Palestinian statehood.
