The UN Security Council will meet today at the request of Ukraine regarding the massive Russian shelling of the civilian infrastructure of Kyiv, which claimed dozens of lives on the night of August 28.

Diplomats will insist on the protection of civilians and the immediate cessation of Russian attacks, the portal RBK-Ukraine reports.

The start of the meeting is scheduled for 22:00 CET.

Ukrainian representatives will inform the Security Council of the extent of the destruction and call for international action to protect civilians, including an immediate ceasefire.

The delegation consisting of the Chief of Staff of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak and the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov are staying in the USA today, where they are scheduled to meet with the special envoy of the US President Donald Trump, Steve Witkoff.

On the night of August 28, Kyiv was exposed to the most massive shelling in recent times. Russia launched over 600 drones and missiles at the Ukrainian capital from all directions.

The greatest damage was recorded in the Darnica district, where the rocket hit a five-story building, completely destroying one entrance at the level of the third and fourth floors.

According to the latest data, at least 23 people died during the shelling, including four children, the youngest of whom was under three years old. 53 people were injured, and the fate of eight people is still unknown.
